The incidence of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections in India is on the rise, with a 20% rise in the overall global incidence. Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is often used for the treatment of respiratory, urinary tract, and wound infections, among others. Doxycycline is a widely used antibiotic that can be prescribed for the treatment of both infections in humans and animals. However, the emergence of resistant bacteria is a significant problem in India, and the use of Doxycycline as an antibiotic of choice has been limited due to the lack of awareness and awareness of the issue in this country. The current study aims to provide an overview of the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in Indian bacterial isolates, the types of antibiotic resistance, the treatment regimen, and antibiotic resistance trends in India.
We used a retrospective descriptive cohort study design to collect information on antibiotic resistance, clinical isolates, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and antimicrobial resistance (AMR-A/B) across 30 hospitals, spanning 3 continents: North America, Europe, Asia, and the United States. The data were collected from the National Antibiotic Resistance (ANR) database, and were included in the analysis for the present study.
Among the 30 hospitals, the prevalence of antibiotic resistance was 7.2% in North America, 2.8% in Europe, 1.1% in Asia, and 0.1% in the United States. Antibiotic resistance was most prevalent in North America and Europe. The highest prevalence was observed in the Asia region where the highest percentage of antibiotic resistance was observed in India, followed by Africa, and the United States. The highest AMR prevalence was observed in Europe, followed by Asia, and the United States.
The findings indicate that the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in India is on the rise, with the highest percentage of antibiotic resistance being in North America, followed by Asia, and the United States. The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance is likely due to the increasing use of Doxycycline as a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and the use of antimicrobials as first-line therapies.
